Lou and I finally made it out for a little sturgeon fishing today, after some boat problems last week I was anxious to get out. Stopped in at Dockside and picked up a pound of grass shrimp and a dozen ghost and away we went. Got set up early on the start of the ebb.
I have not fished for sturgeon for months and was happy to see marks on the graph again. No luck until the tide started to slow. Made a move and picked a couple of small sturgeon right off the bat and then at the end of the tide, I set the hooks into a slug. It ran me around the boat once. It seems like you can always tell they are big when they start heading for the bow. The smaller fish tend to stay behind the boat more. We had a close call with the snare, but Lou was able get her under control for a clean release. We landed a total of five shakers as well. The big fish came on straight grass shrimp.
